This artwork is a little different than the usual. Instead of watercolor painting, I decided to paint using markers instead. And it did render the effects that I hoped it would.
This is actually from a personal experience that happened to me on my commute from work to home where a lady just suddenly stopped in the middle of the walkway on the train station because she was texting.
Being a bit of a bag lady, one of my bags bumped into her, and she whipped her head back and gave me ‘a look’ like I committed a crime or something. The way I see it, it wasn’t my fault. You don’t just suddenly stop in the middle of the busy highway and expect people to be able to avoid hitting your behind.
These days, everyone has their noses in their smartphones almost all the time. I think it’s especially worse in Bangkok. It’s the perfect excuse to ignore the world around you.
I try not to do that. It’s a bad habit and also a terrible posture. Besides, I can’t multitask. I have a hard time walk and talk on the phone at the same time (my mom can guarantee this is true). I would not text and walk but that’s because I can’t.
I’ll wait until I reached the destination or standing still or sitting down then I’ll check the messages and reply. I mean, if it’s an emergency, they should know to call rather than text. Otherwise, they can wait.
I believe in ‘everything in moderation’, and I try to live by it. I believe wholeheartedly that there should be a designated time when you completely unplugged even for an hour a day (sleep doesn’t count) or for a day or two.
